Volunteers Make CBE Special

Each year when we hold our Annual Meeting, we like to recognize the many volunteers who help make CBE successful.  As a non-profit religious organization, we could not do what we do without the many volunteers who step up to help with everything from running events to helping with services weekly and the High Holidays.  It’s an extensive list of names that we publish each year in the Annual Meeting program.  In addition, for the last eight years, we have selected one person to be our Volunteer of the Year award recipient.  In addition, this year we also selected Teen Volunteers of the Year award recipients.

Our Teen Volunteers for 2025 were Maddie Shukovsky and Lexi Shukovsky.  This dynamic twin set took on being USY co-Presidents in their sophomore year of high school and continued to run our teen youth programming for the last three years.   They did virtually all of the planning and implementation of the many events they held.  We wish them both well at Cornell University and will certainly miss having them here at CBE on a regular basis.

Our Volunteer of the Year award recipient was Michelle Fanwick.  Michelle and her family are longtime CBE members.  Michelle just completed being VP of Membership and is now serving as Secretary of the Board of Trustees.  In addition to serving on the board, Michelle chairs our Shabbat Dinner Committee planning the meals, setting the tables and dealing with the inevitable changes to the seating as late additions to the dinners occur regularly!  Michelle also oversees our kitchen and plans all of the Shabbat kiddushes and helps our staff organize and serve the food. And that’s not all!! Michelle regularly hosts other congregants and prospective congregants at her home for Shabbat dinners.
