Reflections by Danielle Ben-David
Growing Together

As we enter the spring months, our Jewish calendar moves us through celebration and
reflection — from the spirited joy of Purim to the deep questions and renewal of Passover.
The rhythm of this season reminds us that growth often happens in stages: laughter and
seriousness. Listening and speaking. Looking back while preparing to move forward.

A synagogue holds all of that at once. It is where we gather to celebrate, to learn, to ask
questions, and to share perspectives — sometimes similar, sometimes different. What
allows us to do that well is not agreement on every issue, but a shared commitment to
respect, connection, and care for one another. This is true in families as well. Some argue
easily and forgive quickly; others, like mine growing up, found it harder because we were
used to agreeing on almost everything. What has helped us grow together as adults has
been learning to respect one another’s differing perspectives — whether on minor or
significant matters — while letting love remain the constant.

In our congregation, we have the same opportunity. We can listen with curiosity, share our
experiences, and honor the variety of perspectives around us — all in a space that is safe,
welcoming, and grounded in care. It is that openness and attentiveness to one another that
allow our community to flourish, season by season.

My work continues to focus on strengthening not only our building and our security, but
also the bonds that connect us — whether through overseeing renovations, supporting
gatherings and programs, or reaching out to both new members and those who have called
Beth El home for many years.

As we move through this season of renewal, may we continue showing up for one another
— with warmth, curiosity, and a steady sense of shared responsibility.

Yachad itchem — together with you,
